Course Content: This is a two day Introduction to Ski Touring. THIS IS NOT AN INTRO SPLIT BOARDING COURSE.
We will try and undertake a ski tour each day, allowing plenty of time for learning new skills along the
way. Tours will not be too demanding physically or technically). Specific skills we will cover are:
Use of skins and skinning technique.
Track setting.
Group management.
Use of couteaux (ski crampons).
Uphill and downhill kick turns.
Identification of avalanche hazards.
Equipment: You will need to bring ski touring skis with skins and couteaux. Couteaux are mandatory, not
optional. You will also need avalanche safety gear (transceiver, shovel and probe), but we can provide
these if requested (Please request these in the "remarks section of your booking form. If you need to rent
touring gear we recommend
Concept Pro next to the Aiguille du Midi lift (they will also give you a discount if you tell them that
you are with us). You will also need spare gloves, warm clothing for rest stops, High SPF sun cream and
lip balm, a peaked hat, and a packed lunch and drink.
Pre Course Standards: You need to be a reasonable off-piste skier. You should be able to comfortably ski
35 degrees in variable snow. Any steeper ground, you might be a little slower, but you can always side-
slip down in control. You should be fit enough to walk uphill, carrying a rucksack, for 3 hours maximum.
We will ski tour at a maximum ratio of 1:6.
