Avalanche Training courses going well in Chamonix

Saturday, 24 December 2011

Well we have just finished our first week of courses in Chamonix for this season and I'm pleased to say that they were a great success. We ran one Foundation Course and two Progression courses, with most of the participants being locals or people here for the season. Due to the unprecedented amount of snow so far (we have already had more snow than we had in the whole of the last season!) many of the lifts have been closed because of the avalanche risk. However, that didn't stop us doing a huge amount of training, and skiing the deepest powder most of us have ever seen ! We've got four one day courses every week for the rest of the season, so if you're thinking about the safest way to get the best snow book on-line NOW. The courses are only 75 each, and they are GUARANTEED TO RUN. We never cancel our courses due to lack of numbers.

We also had our first Avalanche Awareness lecture at La Terrasse bar on Monday night. The event is held every Monday, and is completely FREE. The room at La Terrasse holds up to about 60 people, but we unfortunately had to turn some people away as there just wasn't enough room. We hope that these free lectures will give people a bit more of an insight into the serious nature of the Chamonix off-piste. If you want to come along in the future it's 7pm at La Terrasse, but please get there early if you want to get a seat ! Also please show your appreciation to La Terrasse bar for hosting the event by buying a drink or two from the bar.
