Stuart Macdonald, Director of Avalanche Academy, flew to Scotland at the end of October to attend the annual Scottish Avalanche Conference. This two day conference was attended by well over 130 people, and focussed on decision making in avalanche terrain. Those attending were a mixture of outdoor enthusiasts, avalanche forecasters, and mountain professionals (Guides and Instructors). Stuart was one of six British Mountain Guides who attended.
The principle lecturers were from a variety of organisations including the Sport Scotland Avalanche Information Service (SAIS), and the Swiss Avalanche Institute (SLF) in Davos. Stuart said "You have to be receptive to new ideas and research with Avalanche Awareness. Nobody knows it all, and as a professional I feel its my duty to do everything I can to stay at the top of my game."
